Results / Broadstairs Regatta Broadstairs SC - 22/08/2010

The last round of the Gul Grand Prixs came to Broadstairs over the weekend with eight local boats plus one visitor coming along. The conditions for the first race of the day were perfect with 10 to 15 knots from the south with a slack tide the first race got underway with most of the fleet overlaying the first mark.

Andy Temple showed he knew the tides well and laid it perfectly to take the lead and build a big lead from Andrew Wilson from Datchet followed home by Paddy Denby of Broadstairs,For the start of race two the wind had built a little more and the tide had now started to run against the wind creating some nice waves. Denby lead round the first mark quicly followed by Wilson and Temple. When it was time to gybe a capzised put paid to Denby's race and broken tiller did not help either. This left Wilson in the lead very closly followed by Temple who showed excellent speed downwind . Temple overtook Wilson and pulled away in the increasing wind till the end with Wilson in second again and Chris Wood of Broadstairs making the most of less capzises than the others to take third .

The third race of the day the wind had increased now to 15 to 20 knots with the odd 25 knot gust thrown in from the start.Temple pulled away not to be seen again the battle for second was between Wood, Denby, Wilson with Denby having one too many swims and retiring this left only four boats to finish with Wilson in second Wood again came through into third.

Sunday dawned with a lighter breeze and the tide in a different direction making the beats a bit longer and the kite legs shorter due the tide effect anyway race one again the fleet overlaid the first mark . Temple was the first to show pulling away slowly this time with the race for second between four boats at the end Wilson again took second  Denby taking third,The second race of the day started well with Ceri Thomas leading at the first mark closly followed by Anthony Paine then Temple and Denby lots of place changes took place on the downwind leg but at the bottom buoy. Thomas was still leading by the time the windward mark was reached Temple had taken over the running with Paine close behind Wilson was in third and Denby fourth but on the last down wind leg Denby overtook Paine who was nearly overtook by Wilson. At the line it was Temple then Denby then Wilson in fourth. The last race of the day Temple decided to try and win this one from the off and lead again from start to finish with a very close battle for second and third with it going right down to the wire with Denby in second Paine in third a Broadstairs one two three on the last.Overhaul a great event with some great races all the way down the fleet
